The Various Printers & Supplies at The Supplies Guys

In this day and age there are hundreds if not thousands of options when shopping for printers & supplies. Hewlett Packard alone has printers for every possible need, their printer lines span from the individual home office user, who needs a simple HP Inkjet printer, to the large business user who requires an extensive HP LaserJet printer. While HP may be one of the more known printer manufacturers in the industry, there are hundreds more manufacturers who have similar products, including; Xerox Printers, Brother Printers, Samsung Printers and Lexmark Printers. It may seem a bit daunting when shopping for your printer supplies, but hopefully this article can help you know what you need next time you’re restocking on your supplies.

In the printer industry there are multiple options of printers you can purchase, most broadly categorized by Laser or inkjet printers, also known by whether they use ink and toner. Inside each category there are even more options, for example; inkjet printers can either have liquid ink or solid ink cartridges. So here is a breakdown of the supplies you would need for the three most popular printer types you may own; a Laser printer, Inkjet Printer or Solid Ink Printer.

Laser Printers: Laser printers are more commonly found throughout businesses, small and large, than houses. If you happen to own a laser printer, you need to know a few things right off the bat, laser toner cartridges seem to most as a more expensive printing consumable option, but in fact, they typically yield a lot more pages than inkjet cartridges. The three main parts that will need regular replacement in laser printers are toner cartridges, drum units (on select printers) and fuser units. Toner cartridges are the main component to a laser printer, in which stores the substance which actually creates the print. Drum units are only on select machines, but would be the second most commonly replaced item which are devices in which place the toner onto the paper. Fuser units are used in machines that do not have drums, which are used to adhere the toner to paper instead of drum units.

Inkjet Printers: Inkjet printers are ideal for home users that do not print that often, and occasionally need higher quality prints. Inkjet printers utilize a set of ink cartridges to print, some printers use as few as one inkjet cartridge where others can use up to 10 ink cartridges. Ink and toner cartridges differ in this, where toner cartridges come in only four colors, ink cartridges come in 10 different colors in some cases. For example, the Canon Pixma Pro9500 uses a total of 10 different ink cartridges to produce the most vibrant of prints.

Solid Ink Printers: Solid ink technology was first created by a company called Tektronix, which later sold its technology to Xerox, most commonly used in the Xerox ColorQube series, or the Xerox Phaser 8560 printer line.  Solid ink cartridges can sometimes be referred to as ink toner and is referred to as such due to its ability to provide ink cartridge quality of prints, with minimal waste, and high yields similar to toner cartridges. Solid ink uses wax ink sticks, and melts the ink to create the colors necessary for print outs.
