HP Color LaserJet 2550 Review

The HP Color LaserJet 2550 was a great workgroup printer, created ideally for medium sized businesses or workgroups. With USB and Parallel connectivity, it lends itself well to easily hooking into wired networks via its parallel output. With a 20 PPM in monochrome and only 4 PPM in color, it definitely would better suit a user who requires primarily monochrome printing as opposed to color printing. With a paper input capacity of only 125 sheets, it really does not handle very large jobs. You can add additional trays to have the input capacity increased to a total of 875 sheets, which would become useful for users who need to print out larger documents, or higher quantities of documents.

With a monthly duty cycle of 30,000 pages, the HP 2550 can really withstand a high demand of printing needs. The HP 2550 comes with starter cartridges when purchasing the printer, which come with the HP 2550 toner cartridges; cyan, magenta, yellow and black. The HP Color LaserJet 2550 Toner comes in multiple options, both standard capacity and high capacity toner cartridges. The standard capacity toners have page yields of 2,000 pages, where the high yield toner cartridges have a yield of 4,000 pages. There are also HP 2550 compatible toner cartridges which are a more valuable option and are offered in the high capacity version of the toner cartridges, for a much discounted price. The HP 2550 toner cartridges are reasonably priced and seem to offer a high value considering the high page yields.

The HP 2550 requires an imaging drum and a fusing assembly as well. Those parts are available at most printer supply stores, including The Supplies Guys. These parts do not require to be replaced nearly as much as the toner cartridges, but are some parts you should be aware of.

The HP 2550 is compatible with Windows 98 and all Windows operating systems until Windows XP. With 64 MB of Ram and the ability to upgrade to 192 MB for the age of the printer, this can really handle some larger jobs from a memory standpoint.
