Both the Samsung CLP-500 and the CLP-315 are quality color laser printers, although they are suited for two different types of users. The Samsung CLP-500 has a monthly duty cycle of 35,000 sheets and the Samsung CLP-315 has a monthly duty cycle of 24,200 sheets, which enables the CLP-500 to provide for a larger work force than the CLP-315. The consumables included in the Samsung CLP-500 differ from the typical black, cyan, magenta and yellow. In comes with black, silver, cyan and magenta toner cartridges instead. The black, magenta and silver toner cartridges all yield approximately 1,500 pages, while the cyan toner cartridge yields approximately 2,000 pages. The Samsung CLP-315’s consumables include one black and three color toner cartridges. The black toner cartridge (CLP-K300A) yields approximately 2,000 pages. The cyan (CLP-C300A), magenta (CLP-M300A) and yellow (CLP-Y300A) toner cartridges all yield approximately 1,000 pages each. The Samsung CLP-315 produces documents at much slower speeds—4 pages per minute for color documents, and 17 pages per minute for monochrome documents. However, the printer has a first print out time of 14 seconds, which means you won’t have to wait a long time for your print job to begin. The Samsung CLP-315 has a media capacity of 150 sheets, which can accommodate the printing demands of most small- to mid-size operations. The Samsung CLP-500 has a media capacity of 350 sheets, and can expand to a maximum media capacity of 850 sheets to accommodate operations with large print jobs.

The Samsung CLP-315 comes equipped with 32 MB of installed memory, which cannot be expanded. If you foresee your business growing in the future, you may want to opt for the Samsung CLP-500, which comes equipped with 64 MB of installed memory. The CLP-500 can also grow with your business, as the memory is expandable up to 192 MB. The Samsung CLP-500 also features a duplexer, which makes double-sided printing a breeze.

Last Thursday, we sent out an email explaining new regulations that The Supplies Guys had found in the economic stimulus plan. In the email, we explained to all of our customers that the government was giving free ink and toner supplies to small businesses. The email read as follows:

Dear John Doe-

If you are a small business you should know of a provision in the latest government jobs bill, that as part of this new economic stimulus package, the United States Government is giving small businesses free printer supplies through 2011.

Bill S.3103 was introduced in the Senate this month with the title “Small Business Job Creation Act of 2010″ with the stated intent “to help small businesses create new jobs and drive our nation’s economic recovery.”

To be eligible for this provision, you must employ less than one person and have yearly revenues of one billion or more. Read the full details here.

The Supplies Guys have discovered an obscure provision in the latest government jobs bill, that as part of this new economic stimulus package, the United States Government would give small businesses free printer supplies through 2011.

Bill S.3103 was introduced in the Senate this month with the title “Small Business Job Creation Act of 2010” with the stated intent “to help small businesses create new jobs and drive our Nation’s economic recovery.” You can read the full text of the bill here.

During the Senate debate on the bill it was agreed that providing small businesses with free products, those manufactured by other businesses, would allow small businesses to allocate their finances into other important areas.  Essentially the elimination of funds for supplies will stimulate hiring within small businesses, resulting in economic and employment growth. Furthermore, it was also made known that printer and printing supplies, such as ink and toner, were vital to such businesses and therefore these products were added to the list of qualifying products which the government would pay for.

As small business owners and/or employees, you may be surprised to hear that the government will be footing the cost for your ink and toner supplies. Believe it or not, the provision has made it into the bill. You can go to the U.S. Government Printing Office via GPO Access to see the specific language.
