What’s So Great About Black Friday?
Initially, my plan was to write a comparison about Black Friday 2008 and Black Friday 2009 because I’ve read a lot of complaints about BF 09. But, while doing some research I made some interesting observations.
In 2007, Best Buy had a Dynex 32” LCD TV as a doorbuster for $449.99.
In 2008, they had a Dynex 32” LCD TV again as a doorbuster for $399.99.
This year, Best Buy has a Dynex 32” LCD TV on sale for $299.99 from 5 am until 11 am.
As you can see in the slides below, the same pattern repeats itself at Walmart. The formula is set not only for televisions, but with digital cameras, Blu-Ray DVD players, laptops and gaming systems as well.
You can see by the SKU numbers that the products are NOT the same models being held over and put on sale. Yet, it’s still the same products. XBOX360’s and PS2/3’s with free game bundles. How about something new and exciting? Every year these stores have the same products with the same deals. Where’s the variety?
Definitely not enough to make me wake up at 4 am on Friday, how about you?
