The HP Color LaserJet 5500 Printer is a workgroup laser printer that can meet the basic operational needs of most small businesses or offices within a larger operation. Offering high-capacity toner cartridges, large input and output paper trays and network printing, the HP Color LaserJet 5500 is a workhorse that can support multiple print jobs for internal and external office use. The printer has a monthly duty cycle of 120,000 pages.
The HP Color LaserJet 5500 features IEEE 1284-compliant bidirectional parallel port, Fast Infrared (FIR) port and three open EIO slots standard connectivity options. Users can also opt for optional connectivity features, including HP Jetdirect 600n, 610n, 615n, and 680n EIO internal print servers, Connectivity Card for Serial, LocalTalk and USB connectivity.
The printer comes with four HP Toner cartridges (black, yellow, cyan and magenta), a power cord, an IEEE 1284-C parallel cable, HP’s Getting Started Guide and set-up software. Replacement cyan (C9731A), magenta (C9733A) and yellow (C9732A) toner cartridges yield approximately 12,000 pages each. Replacement black (C9730A) toner cartridges yield approximately 13,000 pages.
The HP Color LaserJet 5500 is equipped with HP’s ImageREt 2400 image enhancement technology, and has a 600 x 600 dpi maximum resolution for both monochrome and color documents. The printer also features in-line color laser and direct-to-page printing technology. The printer quickly produces both color and monochrome documents at 21 pages per minute, with a first page out time of 18 seconds in ready state, 45 seconds in powersave mode and 2 minutes from power-up. The HP Color LaserJet 5500 has a large media capacity of 600 sheets; however, if your printing demand increases, media capacity can be expanded to up to 1,600 sheets.
The HP Color LaserJet 5500’s 400 MHz processor helps speed up print jobs by helping the printer translate and process complex documents faster. The printer comes equipped with 96 MB of installed memory, which can be expanded up to 416 MB. There are five model variations of the HP Color LaserJet 5500—5500 base model (C9656A), 5500dn (C9657A), 5500dtn (C9658A), 5500hdn (C9659A) and 5500n (C7131A). The 5500dn has all of the same features as the base model, plus HP’s Jetdirect EIO internal print server. The 5500dn features Jetdirect and automatic duplexing for double-sided printing. The 5500dtn has 160 MB more of SDRAM, Jetdirect, automatic duplexing, an additional 500-sheet media tray and a stand. The 5500hdn also has 160 MB more or SDRAM, Jetdirect, automatic duplexing, three 500-sheet media trays, a stand and hard disk.
